Shell and Kernel Separator

In the efficient operation of oil mill plants, particularly in regions with high yields of cottonseed, sunflower seeds, and other oilseeds, the pretreatment process is critical. After seed dehulling, the ability to effectively separate hulls from kernels directly impacts oil yield, equipment wear, and final product quality. Our advanced seed shell and kernel separator (also known as a kernel husk separator) leverages the significant differences in weight, size, and density between seed shells and kernels to achieve exceptional separation results. This equipment is an indispensable component in oilseed processing lines, ensuring only clean kernels enter the oil extraction stage, thereby enhancing efficiency and reducing waste.

Shell and Kernel Separator

Key Features and Advantages of the Shell and Kernel Separator

  • High Separation Efficiency: Achieves a hull separation rate of 90%–98%, minimizing kernel loss.
  • Adjustable Output Ratio: Precisely regulates the hull-to-kernel output ratio according to specific oilseed processing requirements.
  • Energy-Efficient Operation: Low-power design reduces overall operational costs for oil mill plants.
  • Multi-stage Separation: Equipped with a three-layer screen system for thorough multi-stage separation.
  • Robust Durability: Features a feed inlet, triple-layer spiral separator, kernel conveyor, and reliable drive mechanism for long-lasting performance.
  • Integrated Design: Compatible with hullers to further reduce kernel content in hulls before storage, maximizing recovery rates.

Technical Specifications

  • Capacity: Dehuller: 100 T/D (24h); Kernel Husk Separator: 50 T/D (24h)
  • Husk Separation Rate: 90–98% (at seed moisture content of 2–10%)
  • Rate of Husk in Kernel (Purity): As low as 1–4%
  • Design: Triple-deck vibrating screen system with auger conveyors.

Working Principle

The shell and kernel separator employs a precise multi-stage layered screening process:

  • Feeding: The husk-grain mixture from the dehulling machine is fed into the upper screw conveyor.
  • Primary Separation: Material is evenly distributed across the first vibrating screen layer. Heavier, smaller grains pass through the screen apertures and slide into the lower grain screw conveyor. Lighter hulls and any grains still adhering to the screen are transported to the screen edges.
  • Secondary and Tertiary Separation: The remaining mixture proceeds to the second-layer screen for another screening cycle, then to the third-layer screen. This three-stage separation process ensures complete separation and high purity of both material streams.
  • Output: Cleaned kernels are conveyed via a kernel screw conveyor to the next stage of the oil extraction line, typically flaking or pressing equipment. The expelled hulls are directed to storage or can be routed through an optional hull beater to reclaim any residual kernels, optimizing overall yield for your oil milling plant.
